Meet Our VP Membership

We are going to do a series for members to get to know our Atlanta Night officers.
We are staring with our Vice President of Membership, Shanon Perry. Shanon is an alumna of Virginia Tech and has been living in Atlanta for six months. Growing up in Ocala, FL she developed a love of college football. Shanon spends her 9-5 hours as a Coordinator for an IT recruiting company, Visionaire Partners.

When not working or volunteering for KD, Shanon enjoys baking, researching her family tree, reading, playing with her dogs, Sydney and Lily, trying new restaurants, photography, Virginia Tech football and spending time with friends and family. Her favorite place to visit is New York and her favorite book is The Body Farm.

Shanon has some great events planned for us this year! Come out and meet her at our kick off event at Taverna Plaka.

Helping a Sister

We usually only post stuff about Atlanta KD's on our blog, but in this case it was worth an exception. Chelsea Meythaler, a KD alumna from University of Kentucky, was driving to work early this spring when she was involved in a serious car accident. Chelsea was instantly paralyzed from the chest down.

She was transported to the UK trama center and then later spent three months in Atlanta working on her recovery. During her recovery, Chelsea has kept a positive outlook and is gaining some movement in her hands. She even married her long time boyfriend, David!

A great organziation, Right as Rain, is working to raise money to help Chelsea and David make their home more accessible for her and to buy much needed medical equipment for her recovery. You can help support the efforts by visiting www.rightasrain.org. Any donation or support you can offer helps show Chelsea her KD sisters near and far are thinking of her.

Did You Know...

Did you know that in the KD Atlanta Night chapter we have women representing 27 different collegiate chapters? Our members include Virginia Tech, University of Maryland, University of Kentucky, Texas A & M, Texas Tech, Lynchburg College, Cornell University, Bowling Green State University and Birmingham Southern College alumnae among others. Clemson, Georgia Southern, West Georgia, Southern Mississippi and North Georgia College and State University are all tied for the largest groups from any one chapter.

Our members were also very involved in their chapters as undergraduates. Among the many offices our members held, four members served as their Chapter President, four served as Treasurer and four served on Panhellenic. Another two members served as their New Member Educator, two members served as the Vice President of Membership and two served as the Vice President of Standards. The most popular position, however, was Vice President of Public Relations. We had five members serve their chapters in the VP PR role.

Recruitment, Recruitment, Recruitment

It’s that time of year again! Students are heading back to campus, the weather is getting a little cooler (well, maybe not in Atlanta but in some places!), football is in the air…and recruitment is getting under way. If you know any young ladies headed off to college this fall make sure you submit a reference form to the KD chapter at their school! You can find the forms and additional information here.

Also, the KD Atlanta Night Chapter will be supporting the University of West Georgia KDs in their recruitment efforts. The chapter has asked us to help them by volunteering for a mock recruitment event. We will be heading to Carrollton on Sunday August 22nd to help the ladies practice their conversation skills. If you would like to join us please email, Beth Knott at eknot5@aol.com, for more information.

State Day Wrap Up

This weekend was filled with all things Kappa Delta at the Georgia/South Carolina State Day! Atlanta Night members joined seven other KD Alumnae Associations and eight collegiate chapters in a celebration of sisterhood. National President, Beth Langford, and National VP Collegians, Jody Corry, welcomed everyone to Atlanta and announced that in the summer of 2012 KD will hold a national leadership workshop in Atlanta. Attendees joined in the singing of many KD songs and even learned a few new ones. Patricia Barnes, KD Alumna and founder of Sister Shubert’s Rolls, was the keynote speaker and was available to autograph her new cookbook. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this great event!
